U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Alexander Steinberg, a team leader with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, currently attached to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, under the Unit Deployment Program, participates in a squad competition at the Jungle Warfare Training Center on Okinawa, Japan, March 17, 2020. “It’s a pretty crazy difference for us because we come from the desert out in the Mojave,” said Steinberg, a native of Zalma, Missouri. “So, coming out here into the jungle, we get a sense of what it feels like to not be able to see down large areas. There are many different places to hide, like behind trees, and there is a lot of different wildlife. It’s very good training and very different than from the terrain we usually train on.” The week-long competition was held to test squads from across the Marine Corps in their mastery of warfighting skills.
