Fort Benning moves to ease wait time for housing during this summer’s 'surge' [Image 2 of 3]

FORT BENNING, Ga. – Movers at a housing area on Fort Benning, Georgia load the household goods of an Army Family Feb. 24 whose assignment at Fort Benning has reached its end. Soldiers and their Families move to new assignments at all times of the year but an especially large number move during the summer. Of those, many ask to be housed on post, and that can mean a wait for an apartment to become ready for occupancy. To cut wait times during this summer’s seasonal housing “surge,” housing officials have a plan to cut wait times by cutting the time it takes to get homes ready for new tenants. To do that they’ll be asking that as early as they possibly can, residents give notice they’ll be moving. That in turn will give housing officials a valuable head start on the things they need to do to have the home ready for a new Family.
