U.S. Army paratroopers assigned to 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade begin a run during the Lozada Shield Challenge on Caserma Del Din, Italy, Feb. 20, 2020.
In 1967 during the Battle of Dak To, Pfc. Lozada obstructed a North Vietnamese attack on his company, maintaining his compromised firing position and giving his fellow soldiers the opportunity to successfully withdraw and regroup.
Pfc. Lozada was mortally wounded during the firefight and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions.
Able Company's Lozada Shield Challenge is meant to recognize their rich history, honor their fallen warriors, and promote physical dominance among their ranks.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army’s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to Europe, Africa and Central Commands areas of responsibilities. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.
