The Individual First Aid Kit, or IFAK, contains all the necessary items to manage Airway, Breathing and Circulation, or ABCs. Treating these three conditions of a wounded Soldier are vital to that Soldier’s survival. Left to right are an airway tube, surgical gloves, tape, hemorrhage control bandage, tourniquet and a packet of vacuum compressed gauze pads. The IFAK is carried by every Soldier in all field conditions, training or combat. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. 1st Class John Freese)
