EAST CHINA SEA (Jan. 13, 2020) Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Rear Adm. Shirane Tsutomu, commander, JMSDF Mine Warfare Force, boards an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter on the flight deck of JMSDF amphibious transport dock ship JS Kunisaki (LST 4003) to visit amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA6). The America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit team is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
