NORFOLK (Dec. 17, 2019) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) Airman Cameron Stroup, from Norfolk, assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) air department, installs safety wiring on a bolt on Ford's Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) on the ship's flight deck. Ford's first-in-class EMALS is designed to launch aircraft off the ship's flight deck faster and more efficiently than a Nimitz-class carrier's legacy aircraft steam catapults.
