Sgt. Joel W. Hurst, an airframe mechanic with Marine Attack Squadron 542, and Joel Jr., 4, engage targets with an M240 machine gun in Cherry Point's indoor simulated marksmanship trainer, May 23. Hurst said family days are a valuable bonding experience for the family in part because the children have a good time playing with the guns, looking through night vision goggles, and seeing everything their dad does as a Marine.
