U.S. Marine Pfc. Ryan N. Dozier, a supply logistics clerk with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, and a 19-year-old native of Kansas City, Mo., places the dog tag of fallen Lance Cpl. Mark D. Juarez on a battlefield cross following a memorial run on Marine Corps Base Hawaii, June 1, 2012, to honor the sacrifices of 116 men from 3rd Marines who died during combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Juarez, a 23-year-old native of San Antonio, died Jan. 9, 2010, while conducting combat operations with 1/3 in Helmand province, Afghanistan. The infantry regiment's three battalions began supporting Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom in 2004 and during this course became the highest-deployed Marine infantry regiment. The regiment's 3rd Battalion recently returned from its third Afghanistan tour, marking the last scheduled combat deployment there for 3rd Marines.
