Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit Command Element walk to the landing zone staging area after exiting a MV-22B Osprey Tiltrotor aircraft, with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), before a conditioning hike in the Central Training Area, Okinawa, Japan, Nov 27, 2019. More than 150 Marines and Sailors flew to a landing zone 6 miles away, marching back with a sustainment load, personal protective equipment, and weapons in preparation for an upcoming deployment. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
