Partner nation students from Nigeria and Sierra Leone conduct land navigation and reconnaissance tactics at the John C. Stennis Space Center, November 20, 2019. For nearly seven weeks, the students have been engaged in the Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School's (NAVSCIATTS) Special Operations Forces Tactical Patrol Leaders (SOFTPLE) course. Next week, they will be validated during a Field Training Exercise.
SOFTPL is a seven-week course designed for company-level junior officers and senior enlisted personnel that provides international special operations forces, selected conventional forces and law enforcement agency students with tailored training in the tactical employment of platoon-sized units in various environments and operational scenarios. Instruction consists of human rights, advanced land navigation, SOF patrolling, physical training, route planning, combat reaction drills, mission planning, ambushes, raids, and special reconnaissance tactics
NAVSCIATTS trains and educates foreign special operations forces, SOF-like forces and SOF enablers across the tactical, operational and strategic spectrums through in-residence and Mobile Training Team Courses of Instruction; and serves as USSOCOM's premier Security Force Assistance training asset. More than 12,000 students from more than 120 Partner Nations have trained with this Naval Special Warfare command since 1963. (Photos by Michael Williams)
