FORT BENNING, Ga. – During a Nov. 20 observance of Native American Heritage Month here, audience members view a projection slide showing examples of how Native American Code Talkers used their tribal languages to encode messages during the two world wars. The observance was hosted by the Henry Caro Noncommissioned Officer Academy, part of Fort Benning’s Maneuver Center of Excellence. The event featured two guest speakers, both members of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, Ted Isham and Second Chief Lewis Johnson, who serves as Assistant Chief of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.
