Staff from Naval Health Research Center (NHRC), one of Navy Medicine's eight medical research labs, set up multiple interactive displays at San Diego Fleet Week's Innovation Zone during STEM Student Day, Nov. 7. NHRC encouraged students to step into the world of medical research with one of their hands-on activities that showed them the technique for properly smearing "specimens" onto special plates used to test for certain bacteria. One of NHRC's core research areas is operational infectious diseases that focuses on keeping Sailors and Marines healthy by preventing disease.
