    Mike Boyle, 51, U.S. Navy, 1986 - 90.

Boyle said he was born in Mineola, New York. His family moved to the Southern California area for a brief time before relocating to Placerville in Northern California.

Boyle planned on joining the Air Force. He went to enlist one day, but the Air Force recruiter wasn’t in, the Navy recruiter was, and so, Boyle joined the Navy. He was a welder in the Navy and served aboard the fast frigate USS Robert E. Peary.
According to Boyle he was involved in an accident that he didn’t want to talk about, but said it left him with what he described as a “psych” injury. He received a medical discharge from active duty. Boyle said he loved the Navy and being a welder, wishes he could have stayed and still wrestles with nightmares now.

After his release from the Navy Boyle said he “lived like a gypsy”, supporting himself on a disability allowance from the Navy. During his self-described gypsy life, he was married. He said he and his wife chose Idaho to live by way of darts. They tacked a map to the wall and threw a dart to decide their destination. It landed near Council, Idaho. He later moved down the highway from Council to Weiser, Idaho where he lived for 20 years before coming to Boise three years ago.
