A U.S. Air Force Airman prepares to land during paradrop training Oct. 29, 2019, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Per bilateral agreements between the U.S. and Japan, Kadena AB is used as an alternate drop location when the primary overland drop zone, Ie Jima, is not available to meet the immediate training needs of U.S. Forces. The training was planned and executed to standard, with all jumpers landing safely on the designated drop zone. On Sunday, Oct. 27, the forecasted sea conditions for Tuesday evening (Oct. 29) paradrop training were not favorable at Ie Jima, which would prevent the launch of required safety boats; therefore, training was shifted to Kadena AB.
