LAE, Papua New Guinea -- U.S. Marine Corps combat engineers with 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, and a Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF) soldier walk with local children from the port village of Salamaua during Exercise Koa Moana 19 in Lae, Papua New Guinea, Sept. 28, 2019. The Marines visited Salamaua to see former battle sites from World War II where Japanese forces had bases during the war. Koa Moana serves as a joint training exercise between I Marine Expeditionary Force Marines and the Papua New Guinea Defense Force to improve relationships and interoperability within the Indo-Pacific Region.
