Spc. Tomas Gonzalez (right) and Sgt. Dusty Shaeffer (left), both cannon crew members assigned to Battery A, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division assist students with climbing into the back of an M109 Paladin and answer questions students may have about the vehicle and the Army during the second-annual Camp Fort Carson event held at Ironhorse Park May 9, 2012. Students from schools throughout Colorado Springs visited soldiers from 4th Bn, 42nd FA, and their M109 Paladin, and climbed inside the driver's seat and back to learn about different components of the weapons and tried to manually rotate the turret. The event is a part of the Adopt-a-School program in which thirty-seven schools are adopted by units on Fort Carson. The program gives soldiers a chance to give back to their community and mentor students through activities during and after school along with events such as Camp Fort Carson.
