Chief Boatswain's Mate Shannon Smith measures rescue line length aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) while underway conducting its Mid-Cycle Inspection (MCI). Michael Murphy conducted its MCI from Oct. 9-10, an inspection that takes place every two to three years. The inspection is set in place to bridge the gap between the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) and is used to inspect and assess the material condition of a ship.
