ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. - Susan Somes, machinist, Rock Island Arsenal - Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center, graduated the machinist apprentice program in 2014. “I almost didn’t do it because when I saw the ad in the paper I had no idea what a machinist did and it didn’t really say anything. I’m glad that I did apply. I absolutely love it,” she said. “I knew absolutely nothing about machining before I started.
