Army Cpl. Katelynne Pace, a combat medic specialist assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Regiment, U.S. Army Alaska, starts an intravenous line on a simulated combat casualty during annual recertification at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Sept. 17, 2019. The medics utilized the Tactical Combat Casualty Care Exportable (TC3X) kit to maintain their skills and proficiency. The TC3X is a state of the art mannequin that mimics various traumatic scenarios, simulates human pulmonary and respiratory functions/distress, and augments realistic training by screaming, breathing, bleeding, moving, physiologically responding to treatments rendered and providing feedback data via recording sensors. Pace is a native of Brevard, N.C. (U.S. Air Force photo by Alejandro Peña)
