2nd Lt. Austin Peterson, assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, is the first of more than 200 participants to reach the endpoint of a 5K Remembrance run, September 11, 2019. He completed the run with a time of 17: 47. “It’s nice to know we all still remember,” he said after the run, “I was still in the first grade when [the attacks] happened and I know we’re getting to a point where most people are too young to remember it.” The 25-year-old from Tacoma, Washington, used to compete in cross-country runs and has recently started training to get back into the sport. This year marks the second annual occurrence of the event on MK Air Base and the 18th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001. (U.S. Army Photo by Staff Sgt.
