Pfc. Harvey Nichols Returns Home After 77 Years

Mississippi Army National Guard First Sgt. Michael Nobles presents the nation's colors to Janie Farlee during funeral services for Army Pfc. Harvey Nichols Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at Braxton Cemetery. Nichols, of Braxton, died in a Japanese prison camp in 1942 of malaria and malnutrition at the age of 27 after surviving the Japanese invasion of the Philippine Islands in December 1941 and the Bataan Death March. Thanks to new DNA testing, his remains were identified amidst 14 others in an unmarked grave and returned home for burial after 77 years. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt. Scott Tynes)
