Command Sgt. Maj. John Zimmerman, the incoming command sergeant major, accepts the U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Readiness Division colors from Maj. Gen. Mark Palzer, the commanding general for the division, signifying he is accepting responsibility for the 99th Readiness Division, during a change of responsibility ceremony Sept. 7, 2019. The change of responsibility is a transition that is rich with symbolism and heritage, and serves the dual function of recognizing the enlisted service of the departing command sergeant major, and providing official recognition of the change of responsibility as senior noncommissioned officer to the incoming command sergeant major.
