U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Shaun Morris, a crew chief assigned to the 2-238th, straightens out a cord after landing at McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Eastover, South Carolina, Sept. 4, 2019, in preparation of hurricane response efforts in South Carolina as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact. The West Virginia National Guard provided two UH-60 Black Hawks and eight service members as part of their Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team and the Kentucky National Guard provided two UH-60 Black Hawks and six service members to provide general aviation support. The teams are prepared to work alongside the South Carolina National Guard in support of civilian authorities to assist with response efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian impacting South Carolina. The South Carolina National Guard activated Sept. 1, 2019 in response to Hurricane Dorian and has assets staged throughout the state to support civilian authorities as needed with multiple assets to include evacuation assistance, manning traffic control points, supply and sandbag transportation, water purification, security support, critical infrastructure protection, high-water vehicle transportation and evacuation, search and rescue, communication support, debris clearing, and more.
