A U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ward (WPC-1130) crew member obtains a sample of cocaine for testing after several bales of the illegal drug were discovered drifting in international waters of the eastern Pacific Ocean August 22, 2019. The crew also intercepted some 3,000 pounds of cocaine from a suspected smuggling vessel on July 16. Ward, a Fast Response Cutter, was commissioned in March and was in the region on its first counter smuggling patrol in the eastern Pacific. (U.S. Coast Guard photo)
