Lance Cpl. John Ayers performs maintenance on an amphibious assault vehicle here, April 25. Ayer, from Cleveland, N.Y., is assigned to Battalion Landing Team 3/1, the ground combat element of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The 11th MEU is deployed as part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
