Sgt. Norman Montes De Oca (left), a former Ranger who served two years in the 2nd Ranger Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., plays the congas during a performance with the 56th Army Band's swing ensemble, Swingin' Sounds of Courage, for members of the Eureka, Calif., community at Eureka High School, April 27, during a visit to the northern California coastal town, April 26-29, to play for the town and march in its annual Rhododendron Parade. Montes De Oca always dreamed of becoming a Ranger, but a chance occurrence in February 2010 inspired him to shift gears and try out for the 56th Army Band.
