Drill Instructor Sgt. Justin K. Reece, Company L, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., leads his platoon of recent Marine Corps enlistees, or Poolees, in a formation march during Recruiting Station Albany’s Combined Pool Function in Watervliet, N.Y., April 29. Reece, who is originally from Endicott, N.Y., came to the Combined Pool Function to help RS Albany’s Poolees to get in shape for Recruit Training.
The Combined Pool Function is designed to build confidence, motivation, and teamwork in recent enlistees who are in the Delayed Entry Program. The DEP allows Poolees to enlist in the Marine Corps and wait for up to a year before shipping to Recruit Training so they are physically and mentally prepared for the rigors of Boot Camp.
