Kate Reed, an Allentown, Pa. native and Headquarters Platoon Sergeant Sgt. 1st Class Desirea Lipinski a resident of Jonestown, Pa., assigned to the 108th Area Support Medical Company, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, wheel a rickshaw with a litter carrying a “wounded” person during a mass casualty (MASCAL) scenario near the end of their company’s field training exercise (FTX) at the Sustainment Training Center (STC) at Camp Dodge Joint Maneuver Training Center in Johnston, Iowa Aug. 14, 2019. Reed and Lipinski were working within the Role 2 medical treatment facility when an “explosion” occurred just outside, prompting them to be overwhelmed with a slew of trauma patients in a short amount of time.
