U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Richard Winegardner, the command chief master sergeant for United States Forces Japan, addresses enlisted Marines and Sailors at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, August 6, 2019. The service members gathered together for a lunch with Winegardner in order to ask him questions and address concerns during his visit to the air station. U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Joseph Gregory, the sergeant major of MCAS Iwakuni, and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Chief Warrant Officer Shigeru Samada, the senior enlisted advisor to the chief of staff, joint staff for the Japan Ministry of Defense, also attended the event and answered questions. The job of the U.S. Forces Japan senior enlisted leader is to ensure the welfare, readiness and utilization of enlisted servce members in Japan as well as to maintain the communication between enlisted service members and the commanding general.
