Soldiers of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, salute Michelle and Dan Benavidez as they pass rank and file during their ceremonial first mile of a 1,080-mile march the Family is conducting to honor their son, Staff Sgt. Kenneth Mayne, and raise awareness of the service and sacrifice of military families, April 13, 2012. The Benavidez family attended a rally at Fort Carson's Manhart Field hosted by 1st BCT Soldiers in memory of Mayne, who was killed in 2008 while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st BCT, during a deployment to Iraq. Fort Carson leaders and soldiers hosted the special ceremony to show their support for the Benavidez family, as they began their journey to the Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall in Marseilles, Ill., where their son's name is etched in stone.
