Officer candidates battle against each other during the pugil sticks portion of a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) course at Marine Corps Officer Candidates School aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, Viriginia, July 2, 2019. MCMAP is designed to improve the warfighting capabilities of individual Marines and units, enhance Marines' self-confidence and esprit de corps, and foster the warrior ethos of the Corps. The mission of Officer Candidates School is to educate and train officer candidates in Marine Corps knowledge and skills within a controlled and challenging environment in order to evaluate and screen individuals for the leadership, moral, mental, and physical qualities required for commissioning as a Marine Corps officer.
