Marines with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment honor fallen hero Cpl. Alex Martinez, during a memorial ceremony, April 13, 2012. Martinez was a combat engineer with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division (Forward) and was deployed in support of 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment. He was killed in action April 5 while conducting combat operations in Now Zad District. During the ceremony Marines spoke about the man and Marine that Martinez was and what they would remember most about him.
