U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Perry Eckert of Toutle, Washington, right, starts up an agility and endurance exercise as part of a group physical training session with Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Bangor's full time staff today.
The NOSC staff exercises together every Wednesday morning as a group and requires no fewer than two additional fitness sessions per week on an individual basis.
Some of the Sailors wore the Optional Physical Training Uniform (OPTU), released last year.
Eckert is a regular athlete whose training regimen is mostly weight lifting. He said, "I've heard the new PT uniform is better for mobility. I'd buy it if it were a little longer in the inseam."
U.S. Navy Yeoman 1st Class and Command Fitness Leader Justin Delosreyes of San Diego said, "We did endurance exercises outdoors because I wanted to get people's heart rates up and make it a little different."
Delosreyes wore the OPTU. He has been wearing it for six weeks and said, "When I lift weights the shorts are more comfortable and the shirt is more breathable than the previous uniform. . . . I like it better."
Eckert manages the medical records and coordinates annual Physical Health Assessments for over 100 reserve Sailors home based in Maine. (U.S. Navy Photo by Chief Mass Communication Specialist Roger S. Duncan)
