SAN DIEGO (July 16, 2019) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 3rd Class Dewayne Payton and Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Christopher Paparigopoulos, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), prepare to secure the aircraft to a dolly during a crash and salvage drill. Crash and salvage drills teach Sailors how to recover and secure an aircraft in the event of an actual casualty.
