190716-N-DQ787-0038 CORAL SEA (July 16, 2019)- Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 1st Class James Spencer, from Mesa, Arizona, prepares to launch an F-35B Lightning II aircraft, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 (Reinforced), aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1). Wasp, flagship of the Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group, with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is currently participating in Talisman Sabre 2019 off the coast of Northern Australia. A bilateral, biennial event, Talisman Sabre is designed to improve U.S. and Australian combat training, readiness and interoperability through realistic, relevant training necessary to maintain regional security, peace and stability.
