190630-N-NU281-1128 SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN (June 30, 2019) Ship riders from partnering navies aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) observe as Gunner's Mate 3rd Class Gabriel Ramos prepares to remotely fire a MK-38 25mm machine gun as part of a gunnery exercise (GUNNEX) during UNITAS LX. Michael Murphy is participating in UNITAS LX in Valparaiso, Chile, from June 24-July 3. UNITAS, Latin for "unity," is the world's longest-running multinational maritime exercise. Conceived in 1959 and first executed in 1960, UNITAS is a demonstration of U.S. commitment to the region and the strong relationships forged between our partner nations and their militaries.
