A C-17 Globemaster III aircraft from the West Virginia Air National Guard taxies on the flight line while a Kentucky Air National Guard C-130 Hercules aircraft lands behind it at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena, Mich. Both aircraft are carrying Airmen from Kentucky’s 123rd Airlift Wing, who are participating in Exercise Charred Barrel. The exercise will test the unit’s ability to deploy, survive and operate under simulated hostile conditions while providing military support to a fictional ally, enhancing real-world readiness for every Airman.
