GROTON, Conn. - (May 23, 2019) Retired Master Chief Jack Gallimore, left, presents the Heritage Award to Seaman Darren L. Parker II during Class USS Pollack (SS 603) graduation ceremony from Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) at Naval Submarine Base New London. The Heritage Award is presented to the class leader of each class for their superior leadership and management ability. BESS is a six-week introduction to the basic theory, construction and operation of nuclear-powered submarines.
