Sgt. Trayon Augburn, maintenance noncommissioned officer, Aerial Delivery and Field Services Department, Quartermaster School, helps Sgt. Jason Earley, also an ADFSD maintenance NCO, secure his equipment in a hangar prior to an airborne operation June 6 at Fort Pickett’s Blackstone Army Airfield. Augburn, wearing a period World War II uniform, had earlier participated in a D-Day 75th Anniversary Commemoration ceremony held at ADFSD’s maintenance facility. D-Day, the largest seaborne assault in history, was a critical turning point in WWII. It involved more than 150,000 attacking Allied military personnel – including 73,000 Americans – landing on several beachheads during the early hours of June 6, 1944 in northern France, where 50,000 German Soldiers were entrenched. The success of the attack allowed for a second front in the war and the liberation of Europe.
