Pfc. Patrick Murphy, a topographic analyst, 132nd Engineer Detachment Geospatial Planning Cell, at Fort Gillem, Ga., is one of the three competitors for the 2007 Third Army/U.S. Army Central Soldier of the Year. Murphy, from Cottage Grove, Minn., and the two other Soldiers will compete for the title Aug. 27 to 30 at Fort McPherson, Ga. The contest includes common tasks testing, weapons range, day and night land navigation, a written exam and a board appearance. The winner of this competition will head to Fort Lee, Va., in October, to compete for the title of the 2007 Department of the Army Soldier of the Year.
