Staff Sgt. Justin Smith, crane operator from Independence, Mo., Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, hoisted the downed OH-58AC Kiowa Warrior reconnaissance helicopter onto a trailer during a situational training exercise lane at the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk, La., March 13. The mission for this STX lane was to rapidly recover a battle damaged aircraft, while reacting to direct and indirect fire and interacting with civilians on the battlefield.
