A formal wreath-laying ceremony is taking place at what appears to be a memorial monument near a coastal location. Two elderly men in dark suits are placing a floral wreath decorated with white and blue flowers at the base of a granite or stone monument. A crowd of observers, including military personnel in white uniforms and civilians, watches from behind.

Retired Marine Lt. Gens. Lawrence F. Snowden and Henry C. Stackpole III lay a wreath on the Reunion of Honor memorial here during the 67th Iwo Jima Reunion of Honor ceremony March 14. The Battle of Iwo Jima lasted for 36 days and resulted with nearly 30,000 lives lost from both nations. This ceremony gave both countries the opportunity to honor the service members who lost their lives 67 years ago. The reunion was sponsored by the Iwo Jima Associations of America and Japan and coordinated with assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Japan and the U.S. Marine Corps. Snowden is the chairman of the Iwo Jima Association of America. Stackpole is the president of the Iwo Jima Association of America.
