190525-N-SS350-0255 GULF OF OMAN (May 25, 2019) Damage Controlman 3rd Class Steven Walawender, from Lackawanna, N.Y., mans the firehose nozzle during a freshwater wash down aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Bainbridge (DDG 96). Bainbridge is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet areas of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
