Major General Tom Carden, Adjutant General of the Georgia Department of Defense congratulates a young finisher of the 1K race which followed the Veterans Memorial 5K in Marietta, Ga. May 25, 2019, Members of the Georgia National Guard participated in the race while Soldiers of the Macon-based 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team simultaneously participated in a shadow run at Jalalabad Airfield in Afghanistan. Command Sgt. Major Jason York, senior enlisted advisor of the Calhoun-based 1st Squadron 108th Cavalry Regiment served as the official starter of the 5K and chatted live from Afghanistan with race participants and Marietta citizens.
