Honorable Minister Mr. Hard Bahadur, chairman, Ministry of International Affairs and Law-Gandaki Providence, officially commences the 2019 Disaster Response Exchange and Exercise-Nepal during its opening ceremony in Pokhara, Nepal, May 19, 2019. The DREE is a Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief engagement between United States Army Pacific and the Nepalese Army. Previous exercises occurred in 2011, 2013, 2016, and 2018 and focused on earthquake response. A 2015 exercise was canceled as a result of the April 2015 earthquake in Nepal. The 2016 event featured a Table-Top Exercise (TTX) and Field-Training Exercise (FTX) focused on an earthquake impacting Kathmandu. This year’s exercise is composed of a TTX, FTX, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges, multilateral demonstration, technical training, and a cultural day. (U.S. Army Photo by Sgt. 1st Class Timothy D.
