Golden spurs are applied to the boots of competitors who complete the challenges at the Spur Ride at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, Feb. 21, 2012. The Spur Ride is a series of mental and physical tests that evaluated leadership, technical and tactical proficiency, and the ability to operate as part of a team under high levels of stress and fatigue, under both day and night conditions. Spur Holders are then inducted into the Order of the Spur.
