Capt. Dwane Sims, executive officer of Recruiting Station Columbia, explains the educational and officer opportunities to an interested high school at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association education day event. The event allowed Marine recruiters to explain the various career and educational benefits of the Marine Corps to approximately 25,000 high school students.
The Marines are one of the many sponsors of the CIAA tournament that occurs annually in Charlotte. The CIAA is the oldest African American athletic conference and consists of Historically Black Colleges that span the east coast of the United States.
The Marine Corps is a sponsor of the CIAA in the hopes of showing the Marine Corps is a viable career option for students of HSBC's and at the same time improving the diversity of the Marine Corps.
