A photo shows an overall view to the nearly completed super recreational yard also known as “Super Rec” at Camp 6 at Joint Task Force Guantanamo. The Super Rec, scheduled to open Spring 2012, serves as a replacement for the central recreation yard in Camp 4, which has not been occupied since January 2011. It offers detainees more open space during recreation and more opportunities for physical activities such as soccer. Encompassing 28,500 square feet, it is about half the size of an American football field. JTF Guantanamo provides safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detainees, including those convicted by military commission and those ordered released by a court. The JTF conducts intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination for the protection of detainees and personnel working in JTF Guantanamo facilities and in support of the War on Terror. JTF Guantanamo provides support to the Office of Military Commissions, to law enforcement and to war crimes investigations. The JTF conducts planning for and, on order, responds to Caribbean mass migration operations.
