USARAF commander teaches World Geography to seventh-graders

Vicenza Middle School social studies teacher George Hanby recently invited U.S. Army Africa Commander Maj. Gen. David R. Hogg make presentations to four seventh grade World Geography classes. Hogg shared his insights, information as well as several pieces of African art and gifts from his personal collection.
Hogg was invited to make the presentations by George Hanby, a social studies teacher at VMS. This is the second year that Hogg has made presentations to seventh grade World Geography classes. This year, Hogg was presented with a certificate making him an honorary seventh grade world geography teacher at Vicenza Middle School. “These presentations are personally and professionally satisfying. Last year was the first time I had the opportunity to engage in this kind of academic setting. It was very rewarding and very fun. The kids are smart and had some great questions,” Hogg said. “There’s a feeling of satisfaction when you can contribute to the education of our youth and the professional satisfaction of being able to talk to kids about what the U.S. Army is doing in Africa.”
