Instructors from the Tactical Combat Medical Care Course (TCMC) reenact a trauma scenario consisting of two segments - Care Under Fire and Tactical Field Care. The course is geared toward medical doctors, physician's assistants, nurses and senior medics in preparation for deployment to hostile environments. TCMC prepares students for potential injuries and wounds they might encounter on the battlefield. The intense 5-day course is offered several times a year at the Health Readiness Center of Excellence on Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. As the course increases instructors, they project an annual student throughput of up to 2,000 students per year to accommodate those units who have mandated the course as a pre-deployment requirement for their medical providers. Students from all branches of military service have attended the course however the majority are now from the U.S. Army.
